Meet the New Volunteer at the WPA Rock Garden - Me!!!
I started yesterday and it feels so right! I'm going to work every week, which allows me to get inspired by the great Daisy Mah. Here are some pictures from my first day:

What's Blooming in my yard - March 1

...the never ending forget-me-not...aptly named (can't forget something that NEVER leaves!), oh, and have you experienced those clinging seeds?
one of my two blueberry plants (highly photoshopped!), the earliest to leaf out! interesting. O.K., I took a closer look at their tags. This one is a Southmoon. It's a midseason blueberry. The lagger is an Ozarkblue, a late season blueberry. Figures! I thought they were both Southern Highbush Blues that do well in us warmer climated areas, but the Ozarkblue tag says it's a northern x southern hybrid.

We've had some babies recently, with the newest being, Baby Josephine, daughter of Joey Kerr (Wayne's nephew) The McFadden's have also added to their cuteness troop. Send me some pictures and we'll post em.
And some graduations. Besides Liesel from UCI, Justine Jacobs-Baron, my grand-daughter, graduated from 8th grade, Maureen McFadden's husband Billy graduated from the SF Conservatory of Music, and Lilliana Grace Keller, graduated from high school and headed off for college as we speak! Else? speak up!
If this is confusing for anyone, look for a family tree coming soon. I think Julie should create that, now don't you! Hear Hear! Yes...Let's have Julie do it!

Meet Druzhba: My first heirloom tomato success!
This is a tomato introduced in 1995 by the Bulgarians. I've done so poorly with heirlooms in the past, I'm really pleased with this one...and I like the idea it comes from Bulgaria. Don't know why, I just do.

The Dog Days of Summer
I'm very excited...I bought a Salvia gregii 'Annie', which is a sweet pink Autumn Sage, and a Salvia guaranitica 'Black and Blue' for my garden. Salvias are a good bet in Sacramento, blooming mid-summer to fall and liking the heat! See the Black and Blue at http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/54031/I also picked up some garden "art" (or rather, "stuff")...A mother duck and 2 ducklings, being clearanced at my Safeway. Now they're poking around in my hydrangea border.My veg (as the Brits call it) garden is doing great! The Stars and Stripes watermelons grow noticeably bigger bythe day, tomatoes, cukes and eggplants, even anaheim green peppers (for Chili Relleno). It's lovely to look at as well. My back half of my backyard, however, is a disgrace, gone amuck with volunteer shoots from old fruit tree rootstock. But, I'm getting a vision and starting to work on it. It needs better drainage and new irrigation and all that rootstock pulled up, but then, instead of a lawn circled by trees and shrubs, I think I'll go for a central fountain surrounded by flowering shrubs, roses, etc., surrounded by a walkway/path, surrounded by a hedged fence. In my mind it reminds me of Ireland. And, then, over in the shady area, a little area for a lounger like my mom used to have, where I can sit on a summer's day and read a book and have some iced tea! I'll post some pictures in a couple of days and you'll be able to see how full of it I really am. But, I suppose all gardeners have 2 gardens, the one they have and the one they imagine.

Introduction
I'd like to welcome you to my brand new blog. I am a gardener, and a "jammie gardener" at that, which is to say, one who gardens in her jammies. Someone who goes into the garden in the morning with a cup of coffee and forgets to come back in. However, now maybe I'll have a mission...got to post a bit about what's blooming (or dying) and maybe a picture or two. Thanks for coming by. This is fun and we'll see where it leads. J.G
